Now you see him, now you don't! The woodcock is often located along quiet roadsides.... exploding into flight just before you step on him.
The pelican has begun to gather in great "mobs" in Mississippi River backwaters. These are suspected "bachelors" but birders are on the hunt for secluded islands where the pelicans might be nesting.
A rare moment and the photographer catches the Cormorant in action. The hooked bill helps to identify this snake-like fishing bird.
Peerless photography. What else can be said?
What an eye the photographer must have to capture a moment like this... a bird's eye view of the Great Blue Heron!!
Normally shy and elusive, this Pileated allowed us to photograph him at work for nearly 15 minutes!
The Prothonotary is a brilliant yellow warbler found only at the water's edge.
A Lower Mississippi River view, this one was just too good to pass up!
Sandhill cranes mate for life. Normally, they fly in pairs, but will also be seen in small family groups of 3 or 4.
Look closely for the green breeding patch captured by the photographer!
Tundra Swans and Trumpeters are the two large swans found on the Upper Mississippi. The Tundra gathers by the many thousands in mid to late November. Trumpeters may be seen in the summer, mostly along the Iowa and Missouri coastline.
Now you see him, now you don't! The woodcock is often located along quiet roadsides.... exploding into flight just before you step on him.
